Get Timely Treatment with Sedation Dentistry Options
We know many patients delay or avoid dental treatment because of fear or anxiety. If this sounds like you, know that you are not alone! Dental anxiety can prevent you from getting treatment on time but sedation dentistry can help. Whether you are getting a full arch of dental implants or something as simple as scaling and root planing , we have sedation options that will help you feel calm and relaxed through the entire process.
Types of Sedation Dentistry
We offer several types and levels of sedation dentistry depending on different cases. Some patients only need mild sedation to get them through dental visit while others need deeper sedation to undergo longer treatments without pain and discomfort.
Dr. Andrew Ferrier offers the following forms of sedation at his practice:
Oral Sedation
Ideal for patients who are nervous or anxious before a dental visit. This involves taking medication about an hour before arrival. You can expect to feel groggy and relaxed during and after treatment.
Local Anesthetic
Ideal for patients who are undergoing standard procedures but have a strong gag reflex or are very sensitive to pain. This involves injecting anesthetic into the cheek or gums to numb the area for the entire duration of treatment
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as ‘laughing gas’, this form of sedation is easy to control and deeper levels can induce a state of amnesia and numbness. This is ideal for patients undergoing advanced treatments.
IV Sedation
For more complex cases, like dental implants, an anesthesiologist can provide the option of IV sedation. This is the ultimate in relaxation and will likely have you not even remember the procedure by putting you in a sleep-like state.
Look Forward to Fear-Free Dental Visits
Sedation dentistry can change your entire dental experience — and even change your life. Imagine how much better you’ll feel knowing that you don’t have to be anxious or afraid to go to the dentist. Many of our patients are doing just that and are enjoying their beautiful new smiles as a result.
